Community Development Department

The Community Development Department's mission is to enhance and preserve Solvang's character through high quality customer service that assists our businesses and residents in building quality projects and enhancing the economic vibrancy of our community.

Planning

The Planning Division guides the physical development and land use of Solvang in a way that balances economic growth and quality of life. It plays a central role in shaping the long-term vision of the Solvang General Plan while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Planning Division ensures that development aligns with Solvang's vision, supporting a vibrant and livable community, and protects valuable environmental and cultural resources.

Building

The Building Division is responsible for ensuring new and refurbished structures are code-compliant with the adopted California Building Code. Through permitting and inspections, the division protects public health, safety, and welfare in both new development and existing structures. The Building Division plays a critical role in safeguarding the built environment, and promoting resilience through modern code adoption and enforcement.

Code Compliance

The Code Compliance Division is dedicated to preserving the health, safety, and quality of life within our community. Through education, outreach, and enforcement, the division ensures that properties are maintained in a manner that supports neighborhood integrity and public welfare. The Code Compliance Division helps maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the city’s residents, businesses, and visitors.
