About Charlie Uhrig
Charlie Uhrig was born and raised in Santa Barbara, and moved to the Santa Ynez Valley over thirty years ago. He became a resident of Solvang in 1999 when he purchased a home, and raised his youngest children here. In 2001, Charlie accomplished a lifelong dream by becoming a deputy sheriff for Santa Barbara County. For over 16 years, Charlie served as the Solvang Community Resource Deputy. In this position, Charlie addressed the citizens of Solvang’s quality of life issues through education, community partnerships, and engagement. He helped create and organize some of the many programs enjoyed by Solvang and Valley residents, including Movies in the Park, Concerts in the Park, Rec n’ Roll, Community Shred Day, and the Valleys’ Citizens Academy.
Currently, Charlie continues to work as a deputy sheriff for Santa Barbara County in the Court’s division.
Charlie is most proud of his family. Together with his wife Tara, they have eight children and eleven (soon to be twelve) grandchildren. Charlie spent many years coaching his children's baseball, basketball, track, and soccer teams, and assisting the coaches at Solvang School and Santa Ynez High School.
In his free time, Charlie enjoys a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, playing in two bands, including a rock band with two of his sons, and in a band with longtime friends. He also enjoys traveling with Tara and their friends.
