Planning & Community Development

Welcome to the Planning & Community Development Department. The purpose of the Department is to plan for, and promote reasonable and productive long-term uses of land, which foster environmental protection and economic prosperity within the City. Solvang is a unique community with its historic past and its desire to preserve, protect and promote the Danish and Northern European architectural design theme so prevalent in the Downtown Village. It is a common understanding in Solvang that preserving and perpetuating the architectural charm of the area will enhance the social and economic base of the community. The Department works with the community to support and maintain this unique Danish identity. The Planning & Community Development Department must also implement City and State Environmental, Planning & Zoning laws. This entails the review and recommendation on development proposals to the Board of Architectural Review, the Planning Commission, and the City Council. It also requires the maintenance and update of the City's General Plan, and the enforcement of the City's Zoning Regulations. The Department provides high quality zoning and planning information, and permitting services through a professional and courteous public process under policy direction of the City Council, the Planning Commission and the City Manager. If you have any questions or concerns relating to the Planning Department, please feel free to contact me, or any of my Staff. E-mail addresses are listed below.
Sincerely, |
